The Innovation Corner

General Information

The Innovation Corner is a library of books on innovation and entrepreneurship. It is located on the second floor of the ECE department in Room 211 (the teaching lab). Nearly all of the books in this collection are only in this library at NDSU.

Although modest in size, the collection is perhaps one of the best, if not the best, resource of books on innovation and entrepreneurialism at NDSU. Books are being added to the collection on a regular basis.

The primary audience intended for these resources are the undergraduate and graduate students in the ECE department, with a secondary audience being the ECE faculty members. However, because of the topics they address, these library resources may also be useful for other groups on campus.

For checkout procedures, please consult the secretary of the ECE department.

Types of Books in the Corner

The books in The Innovation Corner are a diverse yet related set of volumes. It is our belief that innovation and creativity occurs best in a culture of innovation, where people are encouraged to think differently, take risks, and imagine that which has not yet been done. The diverse set of books and resources that are procured for the Innovation Corner are intended to address the diverse elements that help foster that culture.

Of course, books can never replace the dynamic of individuals working together in a spirit of imaginative collaboration, but they can help us understand what has been done by others, what has worked for them, and perhaps inspire us with new ideas and approaches. The types of books that are procurred for the library are on the following topics.

  • The Culture of Innovation
  • Philosophy of Science
  • Biographies of Great Innovators or Inventors
  • Intellectual Property
  • Managing Innovation
  • Being an entrepreneur
  • History of Engineering
  • History of Computing

The Innovation Corner is under the auspices of the ECE department at NDSU. The books in this collection have been donated to the ECE department by Ernest Hoaby family members, and are the property of the ECE department and NDSU.
